    Appearance

    • Height: 10–20 m (can reach up to 30 m in ideal conditions)

    • Leaves: Simple, glossy, dark green, elliptical, leathery

    • Flowers:

      • Small, yellowish, unisexual; male and female flowers on separate trees (dioecious)

    • Fruit:

      • Oval, yellow when ripe, splits to reveal a seed (nutmeg) covered by a red aril (mace)
