    About the Product

🪵 Coconut Husk Chips – Overview

    What They Are

Coconut husk chips are pieces of the fibrous outer shell (husk) of coconuts, cut into small chunks. They are widely used in gardening, hydroponics, potting mixes, and orchid cultivation as a sustainable alternative to bark or peat moss.

    Common Uses

    1. Orchid / Anthurium Cultivation

      • Excellent for orchids and Anthurium

      • Used alone or mixed with charcoal, perlite, or bark.

    2. Potting Mix Component

      • Mixed with soil to improve drainage and aeration for tropical plants such as ferns, philodendrons, monstera, and anthuriums.

    3.  Mulching

      • Spread around plants to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature.

    4.  Hydroponics & Soilless Media

      • Acts as a neutral, organic medium for hydroponic crops.

    5.  Propagation Medium

      • Ideal for rooting cuttings because of its moisture retention and sterility when cleaned

    Preparation Before Use

Raw coconut husk chips often contain salts and tannins, which must be removed:

    1. Soak the chips in clean water for 24 hours.

    2. Rinse thoroughly and drain.

    3. Repeat soaking and rinsing 2–3 times to remove excess tannins.

    4. Optional: Soak in a mild calcium nitrate solution for hydroponic use.

    5. Allow to drain completely before mixing into soil or pots.

    Precautions

    • Avoid using unwashed chips — high salts may harm roots.

    • Over time, chips will decompose and compact — replace or refresh every 2–3 years.

    • In containers, ensure proper drainage holes to avoid waterlogging.
