• Common Names: Prayer Plant (though true Prayer Plant is Maranta), Peacock Plant, Zebra Plant, c

• Family: Marantaceae

• Origin: Tropical regions of South America, mainly Brazil

• Special Feature: Famous for decorative patterned leaves and the unique habit of folding leaves upward at night (nyctinasty), resembling “praying hands.”

 Growing Conditions

• Sun Light: Bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight (causes leaf scorch).

 Watering

• Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.

• Use filtered or rainwater if possible — calatheas are sensitive to salts and chlorine in tap water.

• Reduce watering slightly in winter.

 Soil & Potting

• Best in loose, well-draining mix that retains moisture:

 Fertilizer

• Use a balanced liquid fertilizer (NPK 10:10:10 or 20:20:20 diluted) once every 4–6 weeks during growing season (spring–summer).

• Avoid over-fertilizing → can cause leaf burn.

 Care & Maintenance

• Wipe leaves gently to remove dust.

• Prune yellow/dry leaves regularly.

• Repot every 2 years in fresh soil.

• Rotate pot occasionally for even growth.
