    Plant Details

    • Botanical Name: Pouteria caimito

    • Family: Sapotaceae

    • Common Names: Abiu, Yellow Star Apple, Caimito Amarillo

    • Origin: Amazon Basin (Brazil, Peru, Colombia); now cultivated in tropical regions worldwide.

    • Type: Evergreen tropical fruit tree

     Appearance

    • Tree Size: Small to medium; 4–10 m tall (sometimes up to 15 m in ideal conditions).

    • Leaves: Glossy, dark green, oblong.

    • Flowers: Small, pale white to greenish-yellow, fragrant.

    • Fruit:

      • Round to oval, smooth, bright golden-yellow skin when ripe.

      • Pulp is translucent, jelly-like, sweet, and custard-like, often compared to caramel or vanilla-flavored jelly.

      • Contains 1–4 dark brown seeds.
