Charcoal for Orchids & Anthuriums — 

Using charcoal in the potting mix is very beneficial for both Orchids (especially epiphytic types like Dendrobium, Vanda) and Anthuriums because it improves drainage, air circulation, and root health.

How to Prepare Charcoal for Both Plants

1. Wash thoroughly to remove charcoal dust.

2.  Soak in clean water for a few hours before mixing.

3.  Do not use BBQ briquettes or charcoal with chemicals.

4. Store in a dry place until use.

Important tips

• Use medium-sized chunks for orchids; slightly smaller pieces for anthuriums.

• Avoid using too much charcoal (more than 30%) as it can dry the mix too fast.

• Repot every 1.5–2 years to refresh the mix — charcoal loses effectiveness over time.

• Ensure pots have good drainage holes.
