    About the Product

The Bush Pepper Plant is essentially the common black pepper vine (Piper nigrum) grown in a bush form instead of its natural climbing habit. By pruning and training, the plant is maintained like a compact shrub, making it suitable for home gardens, terraces, and pots.

    General Information

    • Scientific name: Piper nigrum

    • Family: Piperaceae

    • Type: Perennial woody shrub (when trained as bush)

    • Height: 3–5 feet in bush form (much taller if untrained vine)

    • Leaves: Broad, dark green, glossy, aromatic

    • Flowers: Tiny, greenish-white, borne on slender spikes

    • Fruits: Small round berries (green → red when ripe → black when dried = black peppercorns)

     Growing Conditions

    • sun light need partial sunlight (not harsh direct sunlight)
    • Soil: Well-drained, fertile loamy soil rich in organic matter. Slightly acidic pH (5.5–6.5) is best.

    • Watering: Keep evenly moist, avoid waterlogging

     Cultivation & Care

    • Propagation:

      • Most commonly by cuttings (stem cuttings from healthy vines).

      • Can also be propagated by seeds, but slower and less reliable.

    • Planting in Pots: Use large containers (at least 18–24 inches deep) with rich organic soil.

    • Training as Bush:

      • Pinch off the main shoot tips to encourage lateral branching.

      • Prune regularly to maintain bushy growth.

    • Fertilizer: Apply compost/manure + balanced fertilizer (NPK 10:10:10) during growth season.

    • Flowering & Fruiting: Starts bearing in 2–3 years, fruits ripen in 6–8 months after flowering.

     Harvesting

    • Berries are picked when they start turning red.

    • For black pepper → harvested just before full ripeness and sun-dried.

    • For white pepper → ripe berries are soaked, skin removed, and seeds dried.

    • For green pepper → unripe berries are used fresh, pickled, or dried.

     Uses

    • Culinary: World’s most popular spice (peppercorns).

    • Medicinal: Aids digestion, improves metabolism, and has antibacterial properties.

    • Ornamental: Compact bush form is attractive and space-saving.
