Rubber Plant

The Rubber Plant is one of the most popular and hardy indoor plants, loved for its large glossy leaves and easy care. It’s not only decorative but also a natural air-purifier.

General Information

• Scientific name: Ficus elastica

• Common names: Rubber Plant, Rubber Tree, Indian Rubber Fig

• Height: Indoors 3–10 ft (can be pruned); Outdoors up to 50–100 ft

• Leaves: Large, leathery, oval; dark green, burgundy, pink ruby in colour

• Sun Light:

  • Prefers bright, indirect light

  • Tolerates medium light, but growth will be slower ,Avoid harsh direct sun Soil: Well-draining mix 

 Watering

• Keep soil evenly moist, 

•  Care 

Pruning: Trim tall stems to control size and encourage bushier growth

Cleaning: Wipe leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and keep them glossy

Repotting: Every 2–3 years or when roots outgrow the pot

 Special Notes

• Air-Purifying: Removes toxins like formaldehyde from indoor air

• Sap: The white milky sap is mildly toxic → wear gloves when pruning

  • Balanced houseplant fertilizer like 10:10:10 or 20:20:20 (NPK).

  • Nitrogen-rich fertilizer encourages large, glossy leaves.
