Adenium Seedlings (Desert Rose)

 About the Plant

• Botanical Name: Adenium obesum

• Common Names: Desert Rose, Mock Azalea, Impala Lily, Sabi Star

• Type: Succulent flowering plant, often grown as a bonsai or ornamental shrub.

• Seedlings: Grown from seeds, they produce a caudex (swollen trunk) which stores water and gives the plant its unique bonsai look.

  Care for Adenium Seedlings

1. Sun Light

• Needs bright light (12–14 hours daily for healthy growth).

• Use a grow light if indoors. Avoid harsh direct sun until seedlings are 1–2 months old.

2. Watering

• Keep soil slightly moist during germination.

• Once established, water when topsoil dries.

• Avoid overwatering → seedlings are prone to rot.

3. Soil

• Use a well-draining cactus/succulent mix.

• Ideal mix: sand + perlite + cocopeat + garden soil (light and airy).

4. Fertilizer

• After 4–6 weeks, start feeding with a diluted liquid fertilizer (high in phosphorus for root and caudex growth).

• Balanced fertilizer (NPK 20:20:20) every 2–3 weeks helps.

5. Transplanting

• When seedlings are 2–3 months old and caudex is visible, transplant into individual pots.

• Use shallow pots to encourage caudex thickening.
