    Thai Green Chamba

    Botanical Name: Syzygium samarangense 
    Commonly called Chamba in Kerala, India, and known regionally as Water Apple, Java Apple, Bell Apple, and Wax Jambu ,wax apple 

    Key Characteristics:

    • Fruit Appearance: Bell-shaped berries with a glossy, waxy green skin (sometimes red or pink in other varieties), featuring a crunchy, mildly sweet and juicy flesh.

       

      Beloved for its crisp texture and refreshing taste.

      Growth Habit: A small-to-medium tropical fruit tree, ideal for gardens, containers, and tropical climates.

    Cultivation & Care

    •  Sunlight: Prefers full sun to produce abundant fruit

    • Soil: Needs well-draining soil, enriched with organic matter. It adapts well to various soil types common in home gardens 

    • Watering: Requires moderate watering—keep the soil moist during establishment; once mature, it tolerates short dry spells

    • Fruiting & Harvest:

      • Grafted (layered)  typically begin fruiting within 1.5 to 2 years
