    Surinam Cherry is a beautiful tropical fruiting shrub/tree known for its bright red ribbed fruits that look like tiny pumpkins. It’s a hardy, ornamental, and edible plant that’s great for home gardens.

    General Information

    • Scientific name: Eugenia uniflora

    • Common names: Surinam Cherry, Pitanga, Brazilian Cherry, Cayenne Cherry

    • Family: Myrtaceae (guava family)

    • Type: Evergreen shrub/small tree

    • Height: 6–15 ft (can be pruned smaller; grows larger if unpruned)

    • Leaves: Shiny, dark green, reddish when young

    • Flowers: Small, white, fragrant, star-shaped, appearing in spring and summer

    •  Fruit Characteristics- Appearance: Small, ribbed, pumpkin-shaped berries (2–4 cm)

    • Color: Green → Orange → Bright red or deep purple-black when fully ripe
