Plant Overview

• Botanical Name: Philodendron hederaceum var. hederaceum (commonly called “Micans”)

• Common Names: Velvet Leaf Philodendron, Philodendron Micans

• Type: Tropical trailing vine, evergreen perennial

• Appearance: Heart-shaped, velvety leaves with deep green to bronze tones on top and reddish-purple undersides.

 Care Guide

1. Sun Light

• Thrives in bright, indirect light.

• Can tolerate medium light but may lose vibrant colors.

• Avoid direct sun, which can scorch delicate leaves.

2. Watering

• Water when the top 2–3 cm (1 inch) of soil feels dry.

• Likes evenly moist soil but not soggy.

• Yellow leaves = overwatering; crispy brown edges = underwatering.

3. Soil

• Loose, well-draining potting mix.

• Ideal mix: peat/coco peat + perlite + orchid bark for aeration.

4. Fertilizer

• Feed every 4 weeks in spring & summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer.

• Reduce feeding in fall/winter.

5. Pruning & Training

• Trim leggy vines to encourage bushier growth.

• Can be grown trailing from a hanging basket or climbing on a moss pole.
