    About the Product

Medinilla myriantha, often called the Malaysian Orchid (though it isn’t a true orchid), is a compact and easy-to-grow cousin of Medinilla magnifica. It’s especially loved for its lavender-pink flower clusters that last for weeks.

     Profile of Medinilla myriantha

    • Botanical Name: Medinilla myriantha

    • Family: Melastomataceae

    • Common Names: Malaysian Orchid, Malaysian Medinilla

    • Type: Tropical evergreen shrub, often grown indoors or in greenhouses.

    Profile

    • Height: Compact, usually 60–100 cm tall in pots.
    • Leaves: Glossy green, oval, leathery with distinct veins

    • Flowers:

      • Showy clusters of lavender-pink to purple bracts with small flowers.

      • Appear in long panicles, smaller but more numerous than M. magnifica.

      • Blooms in spring–summer, sometimes twice a year in good conditions.

     Growing & Care

    • Sun Light: Bright, indirect sunlight. Tolerates dappled morning sun but no harsh afternoon sun.

    • Soil: Airy, well-draining mix — orchid bark + peat moss + perlite is ideal.

    • Watering:

      • Keep soil moist but never soggy.

      • Let the top 2–3 cm dry slightly before watering again.

     Fertilizing

    • Growing Season (Spring–Summer):

      • Apply balanced liquid fertilizer (10:10:10) every 2 weeks.

      • When buds form, switch to a bloom booster (10:20:20 or 15:30:15).

    • After Flowering: Reduce feeding and watering slightly to allow the plant to rest.

    • Organic option: Monthly feeding with seaweed extract or diluted compost tea.

    Pruning & Maintenance

    • Remove faded flower clusters promptly.

    • Lightly prune after blooming to maintain shape and encourage branching.

    • Repot every 2–3 years with fresh, airy soil mix.

     Uses & Benefits

    • Ornamental: Excellent as a patio plant, greenhouse showpiece, or indoor decorative shrub.

    • Compact Alternative: Easier to manage than M. magnifica, making it a great choice for homes with limited space.

    • Pollinator Friendly: Attracts butterflies in outdoor tropical gardens.
