    Devadaru Plant Details

    • Scientific Name: Cedrus deodara

    • Common Names: Devadaru, Deodar Cedar, Himalayan Cedar

    • Family: Pinaceae

    • Native Range: Western Himalayas

    • Type: Evergreen conifer tree

    • Height: Up to 40–60 m in the wild; smaller when cultivated.

    • Lifespan: Can live for centuries.

    • Name Meaning: “Deva” = God, “Daru” = Tree → “Tree of the Gods”

     Care Instructions

    Sunlight

    • Needs full sunlight (6–8 hrs daily).

    • Tolerates partial shade when young.

    •  Watering

    • Young plants: Keep soil moist, water weekly.

    • Mature trees: Drought tolerant; water only in dry periods.

    • Avoid waterlogging → can cause root rot.

     Soil

    • Prefers well-drained sandy loam.

    • Slightly acidic to neutral (pH 5.5–7).

    • Avoid heavy clay soils.

     Fertilizer

    • Young plants: Balanced NPK fertilizer (10:10:10) every 2–3 months in growing season.

    • Mature plants: Once or twice a year (spring & summer).
