Cryptanthus - Earth star plant

Plant Details

• Botanical name: Cryptanthus spp.

• Common names: Earth Star, Starfish Plant.

• Family: Bromeliaceae.

• Origin: Native to Brazil (tropical forests).

• Varieties: Comes in many leaf colors and patterns—green, pink, red, bronze, silver-striped, or variegated.

 Appearance

• Leaves: wavy, serrated, forming a star like rossests. Colorful foliage is the main attraction, not the flowers.

• Flowers: Tiny, white, short-lived blooms that appear in the center of the rosette.

• Growth habit: Compact, usually 6–12 inches wide; perfect for table or terrarium display.

 Care Guide

• Sun Light: Bright, indirect light. Some types tolerate low light, but colors are more vivid in brighter light. Avoid direct harsh sun (it burns the leaves).

• Watering: Keep soil slightly moist, not soggy. Unlike other bromeliads, Cryptanthus prefers water in the soil rather than in a central “cup.”
