    • Common Name: croton (most popular)

    • Family: Euphorbiaceae

    • Type: Evergreen ornamental shrub

    • Origin: Southeast Asia & Pacific Islands

     Appearance

    • Leaves are rounder or oval-shaped, resembling the outline of an apple leaf.

    • Foliage has green, yellow, orange, and red variegation, often with bold patterns.

    • Compact and bushy, making it suitable for both pots and gardens.

     Care Guide

    1. Sun Light

    • Needs bright, indirect light for strong color.

    • Some morning sunlight enhances the variegation.

    • Too little light → leaves lose brightness and turn mostly green.

    2. Watering

    • Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry.

    • Likes evenly moist soil but avoid overwatering.

    • High humidity is beneficial – mist leaves or place near a humidifier.

    3. Soil

    • Use a well-draining potting mix (garden soil + compost + sand/perlite).

    4. Fertilizer

    • Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every 3–4 weeks in the growing season (spring–summer).

    • Reduce feeding in winter.

    5. Pruning & Repotting

    • Prune to shape and maintain bushiness.

    • Repot every 2–3 years to refresh soil.

     Flowers

    • Produces tiny white or yellowish flowers, but they are not ornamental.

    • The colorful leaves are the main feature.

     Uses & Benefits

    1. Ornamental value – prized for leaves.

    2. Indoor/outdoor décor – looks great in containers, balconies, and landscaping.

    3. Air purification – improves indoor air quality.
