    About the Product

    Plant Details

    • Scientific Name: Hylocereus costaricensis (red flesh)

    • Common Names: Dragon Fruit, Pitaya, Strawberry Pear

    • Type: Fast-growing climbing cactus (succulent).

    • Height / Spread: Vines can grow 4–6 m with support.

    • Stems: 3-sided, fleshy, green with spines along edges.

    • Flowers: Large, fragrant, night-blooming (“moonflowers”), white or yellow.

    • Fruit: Oval to round, scaly skin, red/pink/yellow outside with white, red, or purple flesh dotted with black seeds.

    Care Instructions

    1. Sunlight

    • Requires full sun (at least 6–8 hours/day).

    • Can tolerate partial shade but yields fewer fruits.

    2. Watering

    • Water deeply once or twice a week in summer; reduce in winter.

    • Allow topsoil to dry between waterings.

    • Avoid overwatering → root rot risk (common in dragon fruit).

    3. Soil

    • Well-draining sandy loam or cactus mix is ideal.

    • Slightly acidic to neutral (pH 6–7).

    • Add compost or organic matter to improve fertility.

    4. Support

    • Needs a strong trellis, pole, or concrete post for climbing and fruiting.

    • Vines are heavy and must be trained to climb.

     Fertilizer

    Type

    • Balanced NPK fertilizer (10:10:10 or 13:13:13) during vegetative growth.

    • High phosphorus and potassium fertilizer (5:10:10 or 0:10:20) during flowering and fruiting for more blooms and bigger fruits.

    • Calcium + Magnesium supplements help in fruit development and prevent nutrient deficiency.

    • Organic options: Compost, vermicompost, cow manure, bone meal, and seaweed extract.

    Other Care Tips

    • Pruning: Remove weak, tangled, or excess stems. Keep 3–4 main stems per plant for best yield.

    • Flowering: Usually starts in 1.5–2 years; flowers bloom at night and may need hand-pollination in low pollinator areas.

    • Propagation: Easily from stem cuttings (15–30 cm segments).

    • Pests & Diseases: Mealybugs, aphids, fruit flies, and fungal stem rot. Neem oil or organic fungicides help.
