    Ficus bonsai

    About the Product

    Plant Overview

    • Botanical Name: Ficus retusa or Ficus microcarpa (most common for bonsai)

    • Common Names: Ficus Bonsai, Ginseng Ficus, Indian Laurel Fig

    • Type: Evergreen tropical tree adapted to bonsai cultivation
    • Appearance: Glossy oval leaves, strong aerial roots, thick trunk, and compact growth make it ideal for bonsai styling.

     Care Guide

    1. Sun Light

    • Needs bright, indirect sunlight.

    • Can tolerate some direct morning sun.

    • Indoors: Place near an east or south-facing window.

    2. Watering

    • Keep soil slightly moist, not soggy.

    • Water when the top 1–2 cm (half inch) of soil dries.

    • Overwatering causes yellow leaves; underwatering causes leaf drop.

    3. Soil

    • Well-draining bonsai soil mix (akadama + pumice + lava rock / sand).

    • Avoid heavy clay soils.

    4. Fertilizer

    • Feed every 2–4 weeks in spring & summer with a balanced bonsai fertilizer.

    • In fall/winter, feed monthly or stop feeding if growth slows.

    5. Pruning

    • Regular pruning maintains shape and size.

    • Trim new shoots after 6–8 leaves, leaving 2–3 leaves.

    • Wiring can be used to shape branches, but be gentle with young shoots.

    6. Repotting

    • Repot every 2–3 years in spring, especially when root-bound.

    • Prune roots moderately while repotting.

     Flowers & Fruit

    • Rarely flowers indoors.

    • Sometimes produces small, non-showy fruits when grown outdoors in tropical climates.

     Uses & Benefits

    1. Ornamental Value – Popular for bonsai styling due to its thick trunk and aerial roots.

    2. Indoor Decor – Adds a touch of elegance and greenery to homes and offices.

    3. Air Purification – Helps improve indoor air quality.

    4. Symbolism – In Feng Shui, bonsai ficus is believed to bring harmony, balance, and positive energy.

    • Toxic to pets (cats & dogs) if ingested.
